Tizanidine hydrochloride under the brand name Zanaflex is an effective short-acting medication for relaxing muscles and used in conjunction with rest and physical therapy to treat skeletal muscle conditions like injury or pain. It acts in the central nervous system that comprises the brain and spinal cord and blocks nerve impulses or painful sensations in the brain to treat muscle spasms of short-term nature. Zanaflex (Tizanidine) is available as a white to off-white tablet. In chemical terms, Tizanidine is a centrally acting α2-adrenergic agonist.
Before the Treatment
Before starting Zanaflex (Tizanidine) therapy, you should have vital pieces of information about this drug. The use of Tizanidine is not recommended if you have allergic reaction to this medication or if you suffer from anemia (deficiency of red blood cells), or serious liver or kidney disease. Before beginning this treatment, you must inform your doctor if you are hypersensitive to any other drugs, or if you have kidney or liver disease.
